Why Drain Cleaning Matters

The average household produces 40 to 100 gallons of wastewater per day, and all of that waste travels through the drain line installation. Over time, those drains can become clogged with hair, grease, soap scum, and other debris. These blockages can cause a range of problems, including:

  • Slow-draining sinks, showers, and tubs.
  • Foul odors coming from drains.
  • Backups and overflows.
  • Water damage to your home or business.

Investing in routine drain cleaning services can help prevent these problems and keep your plumbing system flowing smoothly.

How Drain Cleaning Works

It is important to note the difference between drain cleaning and a clogged drain repair, or unclogging. Unclogging refers to dislodging or clearing a blockage that has formed and is disrupting your plumbing system. Drain cleaning also involves clearing the drain line, but drain cleaning is more preventative and proactive work rather than reactive work.
Don't wait until you have a major plumbing emergency to invest in drain cleaning services. By taking a proactive approach to plumbing maintenance, you can avoid costly repairs and keep your plumbing system in top condition.

Preventing Clogged Drains

Though we offer drain cleaning services, our mission is to ensure everyone in our community has reliable and convenient plumbing. To this end, we also provide tips and guides on maintaining the plumbing system yourself! Here are some ways to prevent clogged drains in the first place:

  • Install drain filters, garbage disposals, and grease traps, and clean them regularly!
  • Do NOT flush anything other than toilet paper, pee, and poo.
  • Keep used fats, oils, and greases OUT of the kitchen sink.
  • Do NOT toss fibrous, hard, or absorbent foods in the kitchen sink – even if you have a garbage disposal. Examples include fruit peels, bones, eggshells, and pasta.
  • Rinse drains with hot water after extensive use, and pour ½ cup of baking soda followed by ½ cup of vinegar once every few months to clean the drains.

Finally, make sure to schedule drain cleaning once every couple of years to ensure the drains are thoroughly cleared. Texas Rooter is happy to help!
